THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Aramac is one of the oldest towns in the central west and is steeped in history. Originally known as Marathon, our town was later renamed after Robert Ramsay Mackenzie - the first explorer to the area who carved his name (R R Mac) on a tree. The tree was found by the explorer William Landsborough and the name Aramac wasborn.

There are so many things to see and do including:

  • Aramac's Adorabull Trail and the White Bull

  • The Harry Redford Interpretation Centre and Library

  • The Aramac Tramway Museum

  • Original Tramway Bridge and Aramac Creek trails

  • Welcome to Aramac Sign

  • Memorial Park

  • Soldier's Monument - did you know, the Aramac WW1 War Memorial Monument is one of only two intact soldier statue memorials still standing in their original street intersections setting in Queensland? And in 2024, it will be turning 100!

  • AND of course, the Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail - keep your eyes peeled for 40 sculptures as you travel along the 200km scenic loop. Make sure you also stop at the renowned Gray Rock, the Healing Circle and Lake Dunn.

Along with Aramac, the Barcaldine Region consists of five individual towns - Alpha, Jericho, Barcaldine, Aramac and Muttaburra. Each community has so much to offer.
